Thanks CEO Clubs of Dallas and Fort Worth!

My first trip to Texas was an absolute blast thanks to the hospitality of John Brown and his assistant Emily at the Dallas and Fort Worth CEO Clubs!

We did two VIP events in two of the most magnificent venues in America, The Myerson Symphony Hall in Dallas and Bass Hall in Fort Worth. I met the most amazing and dynamic people in Texas business!

After our events, I was treated to some amazing Texas hospitality…and some serious steak- at The Historic Stockyards in Forth Worth.

Can’t wait until my next trip back to Texas!

Here’s a collage of some of my best memories and new friends…

The Myth of Multitasking Tuesday on THINK Like a BLACK BELT Conversations…

Dave CrenshawTuesday’s guest on THINK Like a BLACK BELT Conversations is Dave Crenshaw, author of The Myth of Multitasking!

From DaveChrenshaw.com…

“The irony of Dave’s mission is that he considers himself very chaotic and inherently unfocused. In fact, he was once diagnosed by a clinical psychologist as “off the charts ADHD.” Dave took that diagnosis as a personal challenge, and developed simple systems that fast-paced small business leaders worldwide now utilize to improve focus, structure, and stability.

“Dave Crenshaw’s humorous and entertaining approach always hits the mark with audiences. His speeches are described as dynamic and life-changing. He also appears frequently in the news worldwide, including TIME magazine, Forbes, The Washington Post and The BBC. However, Dave is most proud of being quoted by Chuck Norris in The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book.”

#58: I just want everyone around here to work as hard as I do!

Busy Woman Business FrustratedYears ago one of my masters told us…

“Stop looking for yourself in the dojo!”

He was talking to a group of instructors- those of us who owned our own martial arts centers.

“Nobody is going to work as hard as you do…It’s YOUR business!”

He was right- in a way.

What I learned from that, over time, is that if you really want to motivate people to work hard, they’ve got to have some ownership in the outcome.

I’m not just talking about monetary incentives. I’m talking about understanding the core motivation for each and every person who works for you.

I was attacked by an owner of a fairly large company after he heard me say that to a group of executives. He spat, “I don’t have the time to find out what every single person in my company is thinking!”

“Well,” I answered, “then you really can’t motivate any one of them.”

In a large operation, you need to train supervisors at all levels to assure open lines of communications with employees on the front line. Information has to flow from the bottom up- you’d do the same for operational and technical issues…wouldn’t you?

With this strategy you’ll identify general trends- and from those you can design some efficiencies in incentives and motivators. But- each individual may be motivated differently or by different degrees.

I’m sure your personal motivation is clear. I’m sure you know what you’re working for.

If you sincerely want everyone to work as hard as you do…

…you’ve got to know exactly what they’re working for!

A THINK Like a BLACK BELT programs at your company improve motivation and morale. Personalized breakouts and workshops help leaders understand the process of motivation and how to design and implement motivational strategies on a daily basis.

100 Reasons You Need to THINK Like a BLACK BELT...
#76: We’ve got to make some major changes, but everyone is pushing back.

People naturally resist change, and that’s why it’s difficult.

On the other hand, the only constant in life and business is…change!

When you THINK Like a BLACK BELT, you embrace the continual process of change, transformation and innovation.

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them – that only creates sorrow.” ~Lao Tzu

In business and personal growth, resistance to change not only creates sorrow- it’s the path to failure.

Still- getting people to “buy-in” to a major change can be a challenge.

The first step is understand exactly where the resistance is coming from and why. As you drill down, you’ll usually find reasonable objections that can be easily managed or mitigated.

Just as the monster is always bigger when the lights are out, the emotional response to any change is usually much greater than the actual obstacles or people’s fears. You mitigate those fears by facing them- as individuals and as an organization.

A THINK Like a BLACK BELT event before you introduce a major change will help you identify possible barriers. I will work with you and your team to embed a mindset that embraces change as a natural part of personal and organizational growth and success.
